A card sort is great to use on understanding events in chronological order, the specifics of an event, cause and effects, and much more. Sorting by various categories or even playing a matching game is great!

This is a skill that has specifics of the content throughout a fun layout. Having the big events talked about in the unit should be on the poster/one pager. Organizing the information and being able to display it as if you were presenting is very helpful on making sure you know the information. *Being able to teach someone the information on the poster or one pager can really test your knowledge.*

Students can create an online Kahoot Game all on their own based on the test review questions and answers. This is great because creating and then playing reinforces the understanding of the material and the best part is it is free! They will need to sign in to create a Kahoot. They can use their Dickinson email and password, so they wont forget!

Unit 4 (November 14-December 16th)

The U.S. Constitution was created between the years of 1787-1789. This document was created by the Founding Fathers to create a perfect union, justice and tranquility to secure freedom for their generation and the future generations in the United States. The next tabs will go over the specific sections of the U.S. Constitution. The Preamble states the purpose of the Constitution. This tells us four things. We have discussed these ideas in class and should be in their journal behind the blue Unit 4 tab. The image of the notes page is below.

1. Who the Constitution is written for. (The people of the United States)

2. What the people wanted from the Constitution. (Perfect Union, Justice, Tranquility, Liberty)

3. What the main goal of the Constitution. (Liberty for [all] ourselves and our posterity)

4. Where the people wanted the Constitution to take place. (The United States of America)

The week of November 28th we learned about the Articles of the U.S. Constitution. Our goal was to be able to explain the branches of government. The students worked on a museum that helped guide through each of the 7 articles of the Constitution. Look below at the notes pages that were given in class.

The first 10 amendments are called the Bill of Rights. In 5th grade these are the specific amendments that we focus on. Below is the assignment we did in class that explains what each amendment is. You will also find a comic strip that portrays the the Bill of Rights. The students will be creating their own anchor chart at the end will be creating an anchor chart that will explain what each right is.

On Tuesday, December 13th, there will be a test over the U.S. Constitution. Below I have attached the test review that will be discussed in class. There are also games that I am creating. I would recommend making a card sort with notecards or paper to help them sort out their ideas and match the topics and definitions together.
